About Frontier Airlines
Founded in 1994, Frontier Airlines is recognized as one of the ultra low-cost carriers which is headquartered in Denver, Colorado. Between 1946 and 1986, frontier airlines flights were operating as Denver’s hometown carrier and carried around 87 million passengers. In 2001, this airline secured its position in a well known magazine named fortune magazine in the list of fastest growing companies. Frontier airlines introduce itself in the market as an all-Airbus fleet in April 2005 while retiring its last Boeing 737.
Frontier airlines filed for bankruptcy when in 2008, TPG Capital took over Midwest Airlines and returned it to being a privately held entity as before. After a year of this, Republic Airlines acquired both Midwest and frontier airlines for $31 million and $109 million respectively. This way, both airlines came into the subsidiaries of Republic Airways but still, both of them operated under their own brand names separately.
Midwest Airlines and Frontier Airlines Became One
In 2010, Republic Airways made a big announcement in the name of both airways. They announced that Midwest Airlines and Frontier Airlines announced that both of these airlines will be merging together to become one body. Now, both of these airlines will operate under the name of Frontier airlines. The slogan of Midwest Airlines, “The Best Care In The Air” got incorporated in Frontier Airlines during this merger. At the end of the year 2010, frontier and Midwest airlines officially became one brand of the airline. In the year of 2011, Frontier airlines received an award World Travel Awards as “North America’s Leading Low-Cost Airline”. This is a prestigious award that any brand can receive in the travel industry. You can say that this award is like the Oscar award of the travel industry.
In 2012, Frontier Airlines took the initiative to provide an onboard Wi-Fi experience to its travelers. With every passing day, month, and year, Frontier Airlines were taking new initiatives to enhance the overall experience of its travelers. In December 2013, nonstop seasonal service between Denver and Montego Bay, Jamaica, with weekly nonstop flights.
Announcement for the Largest Network Expansion
Frontier Airlines created History by making an announcement for doubling their air routes. In their list, they added 21 new cities which is about a 30% increase in cities served, and 84 new routes. After this, in the year 2019, this airline introduced Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport (XNA) as its 100th destination from its hub at Denver International Airport (DEN).
A Big Hit By Covid 19 Wave
Covid 19 affected the airline industry very badly and almost all airlines suffered a drastic fall in revenue. Frontier Airline witnessed revenue fall to $1.25 billion, and the airline registered a loss of $225 million in the year 2020. Moving in the year 2021, this airline raised $271 million and became a publicly-traded company after a successful IPO.
